Repairing plaster
Believe it or not, mixing your plaster with vinegar instead of water will make
a stronger fill.

When Painting exterior or interior surfaces, be sure
to use a good primer under any new work, but also be sure to use it where old
paint has been scraped or removed. |

When squaring concrete forms for sidewalks or for
squaring buildings or virtually anything else. Use the 3, 4, 5
method of squaring. From the point where your opposing sides come
together, simply measure 3 ft. in one direction and make a mark. Now
from that same point measure 4ft. the other direction and make a
mark. Hold the end of your tape on the 3ft. mark and measure
diagonally to the 4ft. mark. Adjust your sides accordingly and when
you have 5ft. between the two marks, whatever it is is square. This
can be made as small as 3, 4, 5 inches, or as large or larger than 300, 400,
500 ft. |

Water in the basement is almost always caused by one
or both of these things. Water seeps in along the foundation of a
house when there are no gutters and down spouts present or they are
inoperable. Water in the basement may also be caused by a lack of
back fill against the foundation of the house. Ground against the
foundation should be higher than the average yard elevation. I
generally recommend that the ground against the foundation be 8-12 inches
higher tapering out to 4-6 ft. from the foundation. This is also
important if there is no basement present to prevent settling or heaving of the
house where frost may be a problem. |

Always slope concrete slabs away from
buildings. Slopes can be made subtly to ensure that water is drained
away for the building. This should be used with patios, sidewalks
and driveways where water might be a problem. |
